When teachers plan their lessons, they have to consider the objectives to teach IabS and the reasons behind. It is particularly crucial as the students should be convinced of the importance to learn IabS before they move on. In this theme, we show the strategies used by our participant teachers to make students aware of such importance.

Before reviewing a case, you are advised to familiarize yourself first with its context by referring to the information in the BACKGROUND window. Then refer to the QUESTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION window for questions that can guide your review. Two key questions addressed in this theme are: Does the teacher convince the students that learning of IabS is a worthwhile undertaking? What are the pros and cons of the strategy? Wherever appropriate, you can also make use of the framework Five Dimensions of Effective Practices in Teaching IabS to analyze the case.
