The wide spread of mobile devices (e.g., smart phones and TouchPad) has enabled design of interactive, contextual, augmented and seamless learning experiences for students. The Horaon Report 2011 emphasizes the importance of mobile technology and its potential strong impact on education in combination with cloud computing.The investment is being planned by higher education institutions in Hong Kong and by the HKSAR Education Bureau in relation to educational use of mobile technology. Meanwhile, challenges present to teachers and researchers in integration of the technology, since limited research has been done in this area so far.
In this context, Mobile Learning is funded as one of Faculty Research Themes funded by the Faulty of Education, the University of Hong Kong and convened by Dr Churchill Daniel. It seeks the possibilities for interdisciplinary research collaboration across divisions and beyond centres within the faculaty, and ideally with staff from other faculties at the university. The aim is to enhance research and practice involving mobile learning in higher education.
