The Chinese zodiac

The Chinese zodiac is a calendar which has twelve years. Each year of the calendar is ruled by one of twelve animals.

The first year of the calendar is the year of the Rat. Then there are the years of the Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. When you are born, it is said that you will have the same personality as the animal of that year. 

Rat (1984, 1996)

Rats are charming, well-organised, logical, and careful not to waste money.
Horse (1978, 1990)

Horses are cheerful, talkative, hard workers, and can be show-offs.

Ox (1985, 1997)

Oxen are patient, determined and easy going.

Sheep (1979, 1991)

Sheep are gentle, loving and very talented in the arts.

Tiger (1986, 1998)

Tigers are brave, kind, daring and full of feeling.

Monkey (1980, 1992)

Monkeys are very smart, have a lot of wonderful ideas but are full of mischief.

Rabbit (1987, 1999)

Rabbits are generous, neat and tidy.
Rooster (1981, 1993)

Roosters are very neat, have lots of confidence and would like everything to be perfect.

Dragon (1988, 2000)

Dragons are imaginative, lucky, full of fun and energetic.
Dog (1982, 1994)

Dogs are alert and dependable. They watch over everything.

Snake (1989, 2001)

Snakes are mysterious, quiet and deep thinkers.
Pig (1983, 1995)

Pigs are happy, good-natured, outspoken but a little too trusting.
