Text types: Particular Descriptions

Examples Back

The following description and image are part of a longer text used in the video story 'Country Roads Take Me Home' produced by the Education Department, HKSAR and Radio Television Hong Kong.

This description is developed interactively during a conversation between a boy (Jacob) and his father as they walk through Central in Hong Kong.

Central

Jacob:

I don't like Central. There're too many people and cars. It's so noisy and dirty.

Father:

But this is not Tai O. This is Central, the heart of Hong Kong. Hey, you just have to get used to it.
Jacob: It's amazing! That building's so tall, so new, but that building's so old.
Father: But this is Hong Kong. It's developing and changing all the time.
Jacob: Hey dad, this is like walking in Paris. Look at those people over there enjoying their tea!
Father: This is a very interesting street. Tell me, do you like living in Central?
Jacob: No, I don't.
Father: Why not? I thought you liked it.
Jacob: It's too crowded and noisy and I can't go out and play and ...
Father: And what?
Jacob: I don't have any friends here.
Father: Don't worry. Take your time. You'll have your new friends soon.
