Brief Review
Summer Institute: Higher Education for Tomorrow
The Summer Institute: Higher Education for Tomorrow was successfully held between June 14 and 28, 2013 and attended by a total of 36 participants, mostly from developing countries in the region.
The Summer Institute, the first of its kind, brought together senior administrators and aspiring leaders in higher education, either in institutions or relevant ministries, for the advancement of their knowledge and expertise in institutional developments. The two-week programme included seminars, panel discussions led by both international and local facilitators, group-work on simulation projects, visits to various administrative divisions of HKU and a half-day visit to HKUST, as well as a Victoria Harbour cruise trip where the participants could enjoy the spectacular view and interact with HKU Swire scholars.
A highlight of the programme was the inclusion of a two-day (June 24 and 25) Asian Summit on Higher Education which aimed to create a platform for the exchange and sharing of visions, insights, experiences and challenges among leaders in higher education systems and institutions in Asia. At the end of the Summer Institute, participants presented Knowledge Products, i.e. demonstrations of application of the knowledge they had gained during the Institute, and shared their many wonderful experiences and positive feedback. The successful completion of the Summer Institute and Asian Summit on Higher Education was made possible by the support of the Faculty, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Open Society Foundations and an anonymous donation of HK$300,000.
