Letter from Hiroko

December 20th

Dear Ah Kwan

Thank you for your letter. You asked me about the food we eat in Japan. Most days we have white rice with some fish or meat. We eat this with vegetables and soup.

I am very happy because soon it is New Year and we can eat special food. On New Year's Eve we always eat noodles. We eat long noodles because we hope we can have a long life. On New Year's Day we eat black beans and special soup with rice cakes. My favourite New Year's food is red fish because red is lucky.

What do Chinese people eat at New Year? Please write and tell me.

Yours,

Hiroko
