Funded by EDB via the USP programmes, our Project Team has been supporting the learning and teaching of mathematics for NCS students in primary and secondary schools since 2015. With a view to further provision of school-based support service to mathematics teachers in catering for learner diversity, with particular concerns about conceptual understanding and cultural diversity, our new project for NCS students and their mathematics teachers in primary schools will be launched in the coming academic year.

Highlights of Learning Circle:
Beyond Algorithms: Developing Conceptual Understanding as Well as Procedural Knowledge of Arithmetic Operations:
· To study strategies on enhancing conceptual understanding and procedural knowledge of arithmetic operations
· To develop materials such as worksheets, powerpoints or interactive applets for the classroom use
· To study the effectiveness of the materials through trying out them in the classes.

HKU USP-NCS Primary Math_Introductory Session 2018/19
Date: June 15, 2018
Time: 2:30-5:30pm
Venue: RM203, Runme Shaw Building, HKU
Content:
# HKU team will explain further on the content and format of the collaboration for the remaining 8 months of the project (June 2018 – February 2019) – the refinement stage of the project. For example, HKU team will organise some learning circles based on some maths and EM related topics for teachers to choose according to their interests;
# Officers will introduce the details of the learning circles. Teachers who are interested in the same topic will be grouped into the same learning circle and meet up on the arranged dates;
# EM guest speaker(s) will share their learning & teaching experiences.
We strongly encourage at least one teacher from each school, who will participate in our project next year, to join the session.
