Abstract qualities
When we describe something that cannot be sensed through touch, taste, sight, hearing or smell, we use abstract adjectives.
These are often used to describe a quality that someone possesses:
brave | clever | confident |
crazy | curious | fair |
free | gentle | helpful |
honest | popular | powerful |
responsible | sensible | serious |
silly | smart | strong |
stupid | sweet | wise |
Many abstract qualities are concerned with feelings and emotions describing how people react to something:

Sometimes abstract adjectives describe non-human phenomena such as problems and situations:
complex | different | difficult |
easy | familiar | normal |
ordinary | safe | serious |
simple | strange | unusual |
