Language and Literacy Assessment

The aim of this focal research area is to examine and/or explore:

	language assessment practices throughout Hong Kong's educational sectors and the broader society-at-large, from kindergarten through tertiary education and beyond into the workplace, with a particular emphasis on studies of assessment attitudes, beliefs and practices
	the identification, development and evaluation of effective assessment and reporting mechanisms

	innovative assessment formats instigated in response to specific language policy directives, including issues of reliability and validity
	evaluations of the impact and washback of large scale assessment reforms
	comparative studies of language assessment both across Hong Kong and in the wider international community
