Language Systems and Language Use The University of Hong Kong

The aim of this focal research area is to examine and/or explore:

nature of language systems and language use in the trilingual, biliterate and multicultural environment of Hong Kong
socio-cultural basis of language and language use
explicit knowledge about language and its socio-cultural basis in the process of language learning
role that explicit knowledge about language plays in language teaching and how such knowledge can best be mediated by teachers
role of explicit knowledge about language in language use
general aspects of the socio-cultural grounding of language, language awareness at all ages, in all levels and types of educational and training setting, and in all types of communication-sensitive professional fields
